    Brian Taylor
    BBC Scotland Political Editor

David Mundell says Theresa May is still the best person to lead the country into Brexit negotiations.

She may recover, of course, but last night she scarcely sounded up for that fight.

She entered this contest to gain a personal mandate and hoping for a landslide.

She has achieved neither of those aims.

"The exit poll is about as good as you're going to get," he said.

"I think we did tell the nation at 10 o'clock what the story was and the prime minister's decision to call the general election had backfired spectacularly."

  20. Could the North East Fife result end in a coin toss?published at 06:13 British Summer Time 9 June 2017

    Laura Maciver
    BBC Scotland

It seems the Liberal Democrats were up on 1st NE Fife Count, SNP on second count. Could end in a coin toss.

Tossing coin can only happen if votes are equal. NE Fife vote was +3 Lib Dems then +2 SNP. 3rd result imminent.
