Edinburgh South MP Ian Murray- Scotland's only Labour MP in the last parliament - will be returning to Westminster with six Labour colleagues next week.

    Ian Murray

When he was asked whether he would be willing to serve in any cabinet of Jeremy Corbyn, he repeatedly refused to answer the question directly.

He said: "First and foremost I'll be going to Westminster to represent the constituents who have sent me there, whether they voted for me or not, like I have consistently done over the last seven years.

"What will be wonderful will be to have a Scottish parliamentary Labour party meeting next week with seven MPs and lots of Scottish Labour Lords taking the fight to whatever government we end up with."

He took over the leadership of the SNP for the first time in 1990 and remained at the helm in 1997 when the SNP increased its tally of MPs to six and played a key part in the successful campaign for a new Scottish Parliament.

In 2007, he returned to Holyrood as MSP for Gordon and Scotland's new first minister, a position he held for seven years, making him the longest serving first minister.
