  2. Ruth Davidson: 'Indyref 2 is dead'published at 04:47 British Summer Time 9 June 2017

Scottish Conservative party leader Ruth Davidson said it had been an "historic" night for her party.

She said they had built on successes in last year's Scottish Parliament election, and on last month's council vote.

"But there was one big issue in this campaign and it was Nicola Sturgeon trying to run through a second independence referendum in March and the country's reaction to that," she said.

"I think we have seen the country's reaction in the number of SNP seat's falling. Indyref 2 is dead."

Ms Davidson added: "Now it's time to get back to what matters to the people of Scotland - that's sorting out our schools, growing our economy and looking at our public services."

  5. Defeated Salmond: 'The SNP have lost many fine parliamentarians'published at 04:42 British Summer Time 9 June 2017

Alex Salmond said it had been the "privilege of my life" to serve as a politician in Scotland for the past 30 years.

In a speech after losing his Gordon seat, he said the SNP would use its influence to keep the Conservative party from power.

He said: "The SNP have lost many fine parliamentarians this evening and that's a grievous blow to the SNP but overall the result in Scotland shows the SNP will have won a majority of the seats in this country and the majority of the vote, something which I suspect the prime minister would like to be able to claim in the early hours of this morning but is not able to do so.

    Alex Salmond

"The SNP might well find itself in reduced numbers but one of very substantial influence indeed and I know that my colleagues will seek to use that influence to keep the Conservative party from power and to build a progressive alliance to take this country forward and to avoid the calamity of hard Brexit."

  10. Tories at Holyrood off to Westminsterpublished at 04:36 British Summer Time 9 June 2017

    Philip Sim
    BBC Scotland political reporter

Here's a thing - Holyrood list seats - Ross Thomson, Colin Clark & Kirstene Hair are all off to Westminster, & Nicola Ross has quit the party.

Presuming the Tories don't install a woman who isn't actually a member, they're down to the last man on their North East list.

One way of looking at that: the demand for Conservative politicians in North East Scotland is coming close to exceeding the supply.
