    There are plenty of things that make having Motor Neurone Disease (MND) "crappy" but losing the ability to speak and laugh would be too much, says Lucy Lintott.

    The 22-year-old was diagnosed with MND three years ago, making her the youngest person in Scotland with the terminal disease.

    MND, which usually affects people over 40, gradually makes gripping, walking, talking and swallowing extremely difficult - and eventually impossible.

    It kills about a third of people within a year and more than half within two years.

    Lucy tells the BBC Scotland documentary MND and the 22-year-old Me that it is like being "slowly paralysed".

    MND Awareness Week runs from 19-25 June, with Global MND Awareness Day on Wednesday 21 June.

    MND Scotland is aiming to spread more information about the disease.

    This year is has partnered with ScotRail Alliance, with volunteers spreading awareness at stations across the country.

    The theme for 2018 is #JourneyToACure.

    The first two recipients of a scholarship set up in memory of motor neurone disease campaigner Gordon Aikman were named in January.

    Alison Clarke, a nurse at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, will receive a research grant.

    An award will also be made to Diane Fraser, a clinical specialist in MND at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

    Both women will research and develop practical improvements that can be made in the care of MND patients.

    Motor neurone disease (MND) campaigner Gordon Aikman died in February 2017, aged 31.

    He was diagnosed with the disease in 2014 while he was director of research for the Better Together campaign ahead of the Scottish independence referendum.

    He went on to win cross party support for his Gordon's Fightback campaign, calling for funding to find a cure for MND and specialist nursing care.

    His efforts raised more than £500,000 for research into MND.

    ScotRail has raised £104,000 for MND Scotland since the partnership between the two organisations began, she states.

    She also notes a recent announcement that a train with be named after the late MND campaigner Gordon Aikmen.

    Ms Dugdale highlights the efforts of Mr Aikmen to break down the stigma of MND, telling the chamber about how he was regularly assumed to be drunk when he fell over.
