  2. Land reform should be about what is done with the land not who owns itpublished at 15:37 Greenwich Mean Time 21 March 2019

    Edward MountainImage source, bbc

Edward Mountain supports an individual's property rights, but adds there are elements of land reform that his party supports.

The Conservative MSP says he cannot support the government's motion as it should not be about who owns what, rather it's what is done with the land.

He won't back the Labour amendment either as it calls for uncosted market intervention.

Green MSP Andy Wightman says if Mr Mountain does not care about who owns the land would he be "happy to hand his land over to me".

The Tory MSP retorts the staff that work for him are happy with his business.

Large concentrations of land ownership are leading to power being abused in some parts of Scotland, according to a report by the Scottish Land Commission.

Its investigation said a "land monopoly" in effect existed in many areas.

The report also said the law provided very little protection.

Scottish Land and Estates, which represents land owners, said the report did not adequately reflect the contribution made by rural businesses.

The commission's report calls for a public interest test for future land sales.
