Labour MSP David Stewart asks about the new funding formula for the GP contract and asks if it underestimates the needs of rural areas.

Boyd Peters says NHS Highland is working with GPs to implement the contract.

He adds there is work looking at how the contract can be best placed in remote and rural settings, where the challenges are different.

The NHS Highland medical director points out much of the effect of the contract will be on non-doctor primary care staff.

  15. Decline of migrant workers in care sector could impact health servicespublished at 11:29 British Summer Time 3 September 2019

SNP MSP David Torrance wonders if NHS Highland has seen a decline in migrant workers.

At the moment we have not seen that, replies Iain Stewart.

However a decline in migrant workers in care homes will have a huge knock-on effect for the health board by increasing pressure on acute services, Mr Stewart warns.

We are working with non-NHS partners to ensure care staff have leave to remain, he adds.

Boyd Peters says many workers have been reassured by the statement from parliament about support in a post-Brexit world.

  16. Tackling unnecessary admissions more important than delayed dischargespublished at 11:17 British Summer Time 3 September 2019

Iain Stewart explains tackling unnecessary hospital admissions are more important than dealing with delayed discharges.

David Park pivots to post-acute patients not quite ready for discharge where they are looking to help pull them from the hospital rather than push them.

The NHS Highland chief officer accepts the health board's delayed discharge record is not as good as other areas.

  18. Moving on to health and care integration...published at 11:10 British Summer Time 3 September 2019

Convener Lewis Macdonald asks about the two different systems for delivering health and social care integration operating in NHS Highland.

David Park explains many people in the region have never experienced a non-integrated system.

Integration in north Highland has been established for some time, he states, adding that the areas where it has worked best is with multi-function teams.

The agreement with Highland Council is due to expire in March 2020, but discussions about renewing are ongoing Mr Park tells the committee.

This is an area of high priority for NHS Highlands, he insists.

  20. 'We are chasing a target that's moving away from us'published at 10:49 British Summer Time 3 September 2019

    Boyd Peters

Have you ever met CAMHS targets and do you have an idea of when you will, asks the health committee convener.

Boyd Peters admits that there is not a target for when the health board will meet the target.

However, he adds that the demand for CAMHS and other psychological therapies has rocketed in recent years.

"We are chasing a target that's moving away from us," which is why it is difficult to say when the target will be met, Mr Peters states.
