    BBC News Online

A senator in the States of Jersey has called for limits to be put on the number of years any politician can serve as chief minister.

Senator Sarah Ferguson said the proposals were not a "personal attack" on any one person.

    Quote Message

A lot of the research shows that when you are elected to or appointed to any position, first term of office you're all gung-ho, you get going with things. Second term of office, you tend to start getting a bit stale. Third term of office, you've got burnout. We don't want to burnout good politicians."

    Quote Message

The Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team (the Red Arrows) conduct country-wide and global engagement and are ambassadors for both the UK and the RAF. The RAF receive multiple conflicting requests for the team during the summer display period and, therefore, look to task efficiently in order to ensure displays are delivered to as many areas and people as possible. This year it is unfortunate that the Red Arrows will not be able to support the requests in Jersey and Guernsey due to other commitments."

Male and female puffins  mate for life and return to the same nest every year  to lay one single egg.

Both the male and female take turns to incubate the egg, and once the egg has hatched the parents leave the puffling chick in the burrow whilst they go out to search for sandeels to eat.

"Very surprised" - the reaction of the organiser of the Guernsey Air Display following news the Red Arrows could not perform this year.

Barry Neal said: "As it turns out this is business for the UK, the team is going abroad, they're not entirely exactly sure where it is yet, but the whole thing was out of their hands, out of the Ministry of Defence's hands... it's just one of those things."

    The Red Arrows

He said: "Clearly it's the highlight of the display and we've always had them to finish the display off.

"It leaves me with a 20 to 30 minute gap to fill... as far as the Guernsey public is concerned we will make it as exciting and dynamic as we usually do."

  14. Weekend sailing should be 'safe' says harbour masterpublished at 15:45 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    BBC Radio Jersey

Jersey's harbour master has said the RNLI lifeboat at St Helier is usually only needed in bad weather conditions, and this weekend should be reasonably safe.

The service is currently out of action after all the volunteer staff resigned last night.

The RNLI respond to something like a quarter of the 999 calls we get as the they tend to respond to those most tricky situations. So there's an awful lot of instances and calls that we get without deploying a high capability boat, like the all-weather boat out to them."

Islanders will have to wait until June or July to find out the future plans for secondary education in Guernsey.

Politician Peter Roffey said failure to test opinion on the future of Guernsey's secondary schools could end up delaying the island's entire education programme.

But the president of the education committee said he is not going to heed a call to announce future plans for secondary education now.

    Quote Message

We have our workload, and our pathway laid out. We have our timeline that we are sticking to, and we are not going to be distracted by people who fire in from the sidelines who are trying to engage us before we are ready to engage with them.
