    A new medical screening programme in Jersey, aiming to reduce the number of people getting cancer, will be in place by the end of the year. 

    The commit programme will register all women for cervical screening, replacing the current call back system where women must register themselves for a test. 

    People will be contacted by letters and phone calls. 

    The service is available to women between the ages of 25-65.

    The resignation of all the volunteers at the St Helier Lifeboat Station follows coxswain Andy Hibbs being asked to stand down by the RNLI due to breaches of its Volunteer Code of Conduct, external .

    It is not clear what those alleged breaches are.

    But what is the code?

    Everyone who volunteers for the RNLI, whether as crew, lifeguards, fundraisers or in other ways must sign up to the Volunteer Commitment, external , but also abide by its code.

    What it covers is not surprising and includes acting within the law, wearing the protective clothes and equipment provided, take due care and diligence and follow health and safety advice.

    It is also very clear on what volunteers must not do:

    • Act outside the spirit of the Volunteer Commitment
    • Participate in any form of inappropriate behaviour or activity when volunteering
    • Act in a any way that brings the RNLI into disrepute
    • Bully, harass or unlawfully discriminate against anyone
    • Falsify records, expenses or defraud or attempt to defraud the RNLI in any manner
    • Carry out volunteer duties when in an unfit state due to the influence of alcohol, or other drugs or substances
    • Be in possession of firearms or any offensive weapon whilst undertaking volunteer activities
    • Carry out private trading on RNLI premises or use the RNLI ‘brand’ or equipment to promote private trading

    It says serious breaches of the Code of Conduct and the Volunteer Commitment are handled using its Volunteer Problem Solving policy.

    The RNLI has responded to the accusations of bullying from former St Helier coxswain Andy Hibbs.

    An RNLI spokesperson said: "We take accusations of bullying very seriously and will always look into claims of this nature."

    They added: "We have worked closely with the volunteer for some time but have been unable to resolve a serious breakdown in the relationship between the individual and the charity. 

    "There have also been serious breaches of the RNLI’s Volunteer Code of Conduct. 

    "Unfortunately this impacted on the RNLI’s ability to effectively deliver a safe and effective rescue service from St Helier."

    The loss of the Red Arrows is "a major blow" for the Jersey International Air Display, its organiser says.

    Mike Higgins said: "It's a major blow to the people who come because they always stay to the end of the display to see the Red Arrows and it's a very hard act to follow."

    The team has announced it won't be available as it is going on a tour a week before the display on 14 September.

    The famous aerobatic display group has ended most of the displays in the island, which began in the 1950s.

    Previously only bad weather has prevented them from taking part.

    This week the UK’s Minister of State for Courts and Justice visited Guernsey and Sark for the first time.

    A States of Guernsey spokesperson said Sir Oliver Heald MP discussed maritime matters, healthcare and the implications of Brexit.

    He also spent a day in Sark to understand the differences between the islands and to learn more about the current priorities for both governments.

    "I leave with a better understanding of the range of domestic and international challenges that the islands are faced with. It has also been an opportunity to identify areas in which we can strengthen our relationship, particularly as we approach the negotiation period of the UK’s withdrawal from the EU,” he said.

    The Commodore of the St Helier Yacht Club has said he hopes the unrest involving the St Helier RNLI crew can be "resolved soon".

    Last night 25 volunteers resigned in Jersey after their coxswain Andy Hibbs was sacked for alleged breaches of the charities' code of conduct.

    Organisers said the Ministry of Defence said the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team - the Red Arrows to you and me - will perform their last 2017 public displays in the British Isles on 9 and 10 September 2017 before leaving on tour.

    They said "every endeavour" was being used to source and secure display aircraft and aerobatic teams to take the place of the Red Arrows.

    A police investigation into the murder of Ana Maria Reblo  is focusing on her last known movements on the evening of Monday 3 April, police said.

    A former member of Jersey's RNLI has said there will be a protest held on Sunday.

    Paul Battrick said there would be a "silent gathering" at 10:00 on Sunday to support volunteer crew members of the St Helier lifeboat, who resigned last night.

    He said he hoped the protest will get the RNLI "to see sense".

    The mass resignation came after the coxswain Andy Hibbs was "sacked", according to crew members. There is currently only one member of staff now working at the station, a paid mechanic.

  14. St Catherine's RNLI station 'could' cover St Helierpublished at 11:15 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Nigel Sweeney, St Catherine's Lifeboat Operations Manager, said the station's crew was "operational as normal", and could cover "a wider area than usual". 

    For those planning to take advantage of the weekend weather, he recommended people take "more care than usual" in the water.

    He added that it was "very sad'' that Andy Hibbs, the St Helier coxswain, had been sacked, but refused to comment further.

    Twenty-five members of a lifeboat crew have resigned in protest at the sacking of their coxswain.

    All volunteers in St Helier have walked out amid claims Andy Hibbs was "bullied" by senior management at the RNLI.

    The RNLI said it asked Mr Hibbs to stand down "due to breaches of the RNLI's Volunteer Code of Conduct". The BBC has approached the RNLI for a response on the claims of bullying.

    Mr Hibbs said: "I was sacked pretty much. The whole thing was just a joke. 

    "I was being bullied by senior management in the RNLI and I refused to accept it." A statement from the RNLI said the situation was a "confidential process".

    St Helier lifeboat is out of action after its crew resigned in protest at the sacking of their coxswain. 

    Andy Hibbs was dismissed by the RNLI after what it says were breaches of its code of conduct. 

    Officials from the organisation met the crew last night after it's understood complaints were made against Mr Hibbs. 

    He said the work of the boat has been successful and well respected until now, but the claims made against him are unfounded, and he is proud that his crew have stood by him. 

    He now has five days to appeal against the decision. 

    The RNLI says it's hoping to get the St Helier boat back in service soon and that it didn't take the decision to sack Mr Hibbs lightly.

    A woman, believed to have been murdered in St Helier, has been described as a "friendly and generous person" who will be missed by the local community. 

    Manuela Santos, an administrator at the Catholic church Ms Rebelo attended, said she "knew her well". 

    Her body was found in a property on Tuesday. Post-mortem examinations showed she had been strangled.

    A 58-year-old man was arrested in connection with her death but has been released on bail.
