    Jersey golfer Tommy Horton MBE, who died earlier this month, was regarded as a legend of the game.

    He played for Great Britain and Ireland in the 1975 and 1977 Ryder Cups, both of which were won by the United States.

    He also won four European Tour events and 23 events on the European Seniors Tour.

    Horton topped its money list in 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998 and 1999.

    His funeral is at Gorey Church this afternoon and followed by refreshments at the Royal Jersey Golf Club.

    A large gathering of family and friends is expected at the funeral of Jersey golf legend Tommy Horton later today.

    The former captain and Ryder Cup player died earlier this month.

    Mr Horton has been described as a legend of the game and a gentleman, and was a life long member of the Royal Jersey Golf Club.

    He became unwell at a golf club meeting on 7 December, and later died in hospital.

    His funeral, at Gorey Church this afternoon, will be led by the Reverend Jeff Wattley and followed by refreshments at the club.

    From 12:30 there will be traffic restrictions in place around Gorey Pier, with honorary officers there to direct people.

    A shuttle bus will also run between the Golf Club, Long Beach car park and the church.

    Expect a bit more clarity shortly on what will happen to a seagull, known as Gulliver, whose behaviour has prompted complaints in Jersey.

    The Environment Department has received more than 20 complaints about the animal dive-bombing beachgoers, but more than 700 people have signed an online petition, external to save the "friendly" seagull.

    The department is understood to be considering whether to move or leave the bird alone.

    All the States of Jersey employees investigated following the publication of the care inquiry's final report have now returned to their usual jobs.

    Officials said fewer than 10 public sector workers were "removed from front line duties" after the document, which reviewed historic child abuse in the island, was published in July.

    A Freedom of Information request reveals, external all investigations have now been completed and the staff members concerned remain employed on their contractual terms and conditions.

    Jersey's environment minister has ruled out shooting a seagull after a number of complaints were made about the bird in St Ouen.

    The Environment Department will later make a decision on what to do with the bird.

    The department says it's had more than 20 complaints about the seagull, including it dive-bombing dog walkers.

    Many people, including naturalist and broadcaster Chris Packham, have warned against killing the bird.

    Guernsey's marine ambulance is back in service after routine maintenance.

    The Flying Christine was called to a patient in Sark over the weekend with its crew paramedic, technician, volunteer skipper, and an engineer.

    The person, with a pre-existing medical condition, was assessed and brought to Guernsey for treatment aboard the vessel.

    Their condition is not known.

    A Jersey charity running a food bank says the number of people using it each week has increased significantly in the past four years.

    The Society of St Vincent de Paul says it's seeing up to 50 people-a-week this winter, compared to just a handful a few years' ago.

    A recent survey found the financial situations of nearly one in three islanders had worsened in the past year., external

    Deacon Iain Macfirbhisigh says the divide between rich and poor seems to have increased recently in Jersey.

    "The cost of living has risen and for ordinary day-to-day living needs, they are becoming increasingly expensive, and it's a greater struggle for some of these people," he says.
