  4. 'Extreme' temperatures behind runway delaypublished at 10:42 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2018

Temperatures as low as -4C (39F) made it difficult to clear snow and ice off Guernsey Airport's runway earlier, the Ports General Manager, Colin Le Ray, has said.

Flights are now departing, hours after they were originally scheduled.

Colin Le Ray said: "Extremely low air temperatures provided difficult to overcome in clearing snow and ice from low-lying critical areas around the airport site.

It's due to snow in Guernsey today, although further snow showers are forecast after midnight.

"The risk with low temperatures is for the risk of any damp patches to return to ice later this evening, but we will be monitoring this carefully and acting where we reasonably can," he added.
