The States of Guernsey debated the issue a year ago, and voted to allow Alderney residents the right to live in Guernsey, but the law has yet to be passed, and the Committee for Home Affairs said it's been working on other priorities.

    Quote Message

It's kind of sad because you live in Alderney your whole life, you're part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey, you come here to do your education, you make friends, get jobs, have relationships, and then you have to throw it all away.

    Chris Quevatre
    BBC News Online

A planning application to build industrial units at a vinery site in Guernsey is being opposed by local residents on the grounds of the lane being too small.

The applicant wants to demolish an existing glasshouse on Rue Du Douit near Landes du Marche, in the Vale, to build four industrial units and toilet facilities - as well as changing the use of the land from agricultural to industrial.

Local resident Neil Michel said development in the area might not end with this planning application.

    Quote Message

The problem is what they're asking for is industry, and once he's got industry he can go back to ask for larger sheds. You can't quantify the amount of traffic that will be used for these units, and the type of business in them. It will cause a lot of problems.
