There's quite a long queue to get a look inside the C47 Dakota.

Miles, 11, and Leo, 12, have been waiting in the queue for a while - but now their mum is holding their place!

"I think it would be very noisy when it's flying, and a bit scary because it's old and you might think it's going to fall", said Leo.

This classy car was manufactured in 1930, according to its owners.

It came to Jersey before crossing the water to Guernsey, where it was found under a collapsed barn in 1960.

Since 2010 it’s been back in the island and has had a full nut and bolt restoration.

  13. 'A solemn event' - remembering forced labourerspublished at 12:35 British Summer Time 9 May 2018

    BBC News Online

Word will be sent to Russian and Belarussian authorities to inform them of a remembrance service for foreign slave workers on Liberation Day, its organiser has said.

Gary Font announced last week there would be no Russian representative at this year's commemoration honouring forced foreign workers who suffered in the Channel Islands - because of a diplomatic row between Russia and Britain.

The workers remembered include: Russian, Ukrainian, Belarusian, Spanish republican, north African, Polish, French, Belgian and Jewish people.

    Forced worker memorial

Mr Font is the son of Spanish Republican forced worker Francisco Font, who made Jersey his home by gaining a British passport after the war.

The services began in the 1960s, and Mr Font says Russian military attaches have been attending for 40 years. He said the Russian embassy had "apologised they wouldn't be able to attend" because "they only had enough officials to attend UK events".

Mr Font added he hoped the countries would be "pleased" the workers had been remembered, with islanders standing in to lay memorial wreaths.

Local historian Ian Ronayne is the service's speaker.

The service begins at 15:00 at the Westmount crematorium in St Helier. Mr Font says "ours is a solemn event, but all people are welcome".
