  7. Trumps meet Obamaspublished at 14:46 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January 2017

Trump has entered the White House after being greeted by the outgoing president and first lady.

The president-elect saluted the Marines guarding the White House portico before standing for an official picture. They have now gone into the White House's Blue Room for tea and coffee.

"So nice to see you. Congratulations", Obama said to Trump and his wife Melania as he shook his hand.

    "Fantastic," Trump said.

The Blue Room is in the center of the State Floor of the White House and has views out to the South Lawn.

After coffee, the Trumps and Obamas will go to the Capitol for the swearing-in ceremony.

The 1877 inauguration of Rutherford B Hayes started the tradition of the president-elect going first to the White House to meet the outgoing president.

  11. McConaughey: 'Time to get on with it'published at 14:31 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January 2017

    ReutersImage source, Reuters

Actor Matthew McConaughey spoke to the BBC about the election while in London to promote his two latest films, Sing and Gold.

McConaughey said there are still lots of people in America who "seem to be in denial" about Trump's victory.

"I won't be in America for it, but it is happening. It's the most dynamic inauguration we've probably ever had as far as a transition of power," said the Texan-born actor, who won an Oscar in 2014 for Dallas Buyers Club.

"The American people voted, it was very close and it's time to get on with it. It's time for us all to look at each other in the eye, engage, and make a great four years out of this."

  12. 'As foolish as beating air'published at 14:19 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January 2017

Pyongyang has waved Obama goodbye with an editorial in state-run newspaper Rodong Sinmun condemning his eight years.

Today's article says his tenure was marked by a smear campaign against the country's leadership, boasting that "the anti-North Korea human rights campaign of the US only helped the DPRK consolidate its position as a nuclear weapons state".

With typically colourful language, Rodong Sinmun, which reflects the official line of the country's government, said that the Obama administration was the true aggressor on the Korean peninsula, a policy which was "a total failure... as foolish an act as beating the air".

There has been no North Korean comment on what it expects from the incoming Trump administration, however, it took Pyongyang over a week to mention the US presidential election result last November.
