Music stars are gearing up for the Music of Black Origin (Mobo) awards in Glasgow.

It is the second time the event has been staged in Scotland and the third year in a row outside London.

Jessie J leads the field at this year's awards just ahead of Wretch 32, Adele and Tinie Tempah, who are each shortlisted for four awards.

The awards take place at Glasgow's SECC, with US star Jason Derulo and singer Alesha Dixon hosting the event.

Jessie J

The most nominated artist this year with five. The 23-year-old could be named best newcomer, best UK act and best album.

Her debut single Do It Like A Dude has been nominated in the best Video and best song categories.

Jessie J will perform at the ceremony in Glasgow on 5 October.

It'll be the first time she's been onstage without a cast on her right ankle.

She needed a bone transplant after falling off stage in May.

There were reports she'd be soaring above the crowd on a trapeze during her slot.

"I wouldn't do a trapeze even if I hadn't broken my ankle because I'd look ridiculous," she said. "There is no trapeze involved. It's a very Jessie J performance. I choreographed and directed this performance."

Wretch 32

The north London rapper is this year's most nominated male act.

Wretch 32 will fight it out with Rizzle Kicks, Tinie Tempah and Wiley for best UK hip hop/grime act.

His debut single Traktor, which reached number five in the UK singles chart, has been nominated for best song.

It's the first time he's been nominated for a Mobo award.

He remembers watching the event when he was growing up.

"It's been a great nine months," he said. "I'm really chuffed. I got a mixtape award and a few football trophies.

"[If I had to pick one, it would be] best UK act. This is an award ceremony I grew up watching, so to be nominated for four nominations, I am excited man."

Still just 20 years old, Chipmunk already has three Mobo Awards under his belt.

They include the best newcomer trophy he picked up in 2008.

He also won best hip hop act at the awards in 2009.

The rapper has recorded with US superstars Chris Brown and Trey Songz on his latest album.

"I'm up for two awards, so yeah, I am up for it," he said. "I remember the first Mobos I went to when I was 17, so four years ago.

"To still be here and to still be a key part of British music, I am extremely happy.

"The main reason I am going this year is to root for my homeboy Wretch 32.

"I couldn't be happier to see him reach the platform he is at now."

Tulisa is busy readying her acts for the X Factor live shows, so won't be there alongside Fazer and Dappy.

The group have already won four Mobo Awards.

The first was in 2007, which they picked up while still making music from their bedrooms without help from a major record label.

Dappy told Newsbeat: "The Mobos launched us in a big way. It was a big platform. Without them we would be absolutely nothing."

Organisers of the event will also stage a special performance in tribute to Amy Winehouse. The singer died in July.

Dappy described her as "immortal".

"She's a legend," he said. "Forget a moment of silence in my house. We'll shut it down for Winehouse."
