  1. 'Dedicated pro who loves the club' - Kerr hailed before testimonialpublished at 13:32 16 November 2023

Tributes have been rolling in for Cammy Kerr before the Dundee stalwart's testimonial match tonight.

Homegrown hero Kerr, who made his Dees debut almost 10 years ago, will be honoured at Dens Park as a Dundee side managed by Jocky Scott and Ray Farningham take on a Celtic select.

Greg Stewart says the biggest compliment he could pay is former team-mate is that he "hated playing against him in training" because tigerish Kerr "wouldn't give you a second to relax on the ball".

Speaking to the club, Stewart added: “Cammy is a great boy on and off the field and a credit to himself and Dundee.

"He grew up as a Dundee fan and knows what it means to represent that badge. I hope he has a great night as he fully deserves it."

Another former team-mate, Gavin Rae, said: “Cammy was just coming through towards the end of my career – so to see his progression all the way from ball boy to established first-team player has been great.

"He’s a very dedicated professional that loves the club and to get a well-deserved testimonial is special for him. I’m gutted I couldn’t get along to it. Have a great time mate."

Final word goes to Gary Harkins, who said: “Cammy is a great kid and can be very proud of himself for this fantastic acheievement. The testimonial is well deserved for all he has done for the club over the years.”

  2. Break shouldn't derail Dundeepublished at 11:31 15 November 2023

It is a well-worn question that is often put to Scottish football managers – ‘has the international break come at the wrong time for you?’

From a Dundee point of view, the answer is almost certainly yes.

I am fairly sure the Dark Blues will much have preferred to be able to keep on playing, and continue the hugely impressive momentum that they have started to build.

Tony Docherty’s side go in to the international break very well placed in fifth position in the Premiership table – just two points off third.

They have won three of their last four league games, in fact they have lost just one of their last seven. Those are impressive statistics by anyone’s standards.

And when you take a step back you can see why a strong argument could be made as to why the Dens Park side would much prefer to have kept playing, rather than have an international break.

The Dundee fans may worry that it could potentially derail their good form.

But both they, and Docherty, will have seen enough from their side to suggest there is no reason why they can’t simply pick up where the left off when they return to action at home to Hibs a week on Saturday.

  3. ‘Why shouldn’t we be looking at the top six?’published at 11:18 14 November 2023

Who would have thought that when high-flying St Mirren waltzed into town that the mighty Dee would wallop them 4-0 with the away side hardly threatening our goal?

I’ll tell you who. This guy right here.

It was by far one of the best performances of a Dundee side for many a year. We let St Mirren play about with the ball but were able to expertly defend anything that they flung at it.

I will admit that most of their attacks were tame but nonetheless, our sturdy defence soaked it up and barely broke a sweat against the Paisley side. It seemed like we were dictating the play without even having the ball at times.

Our set-up was perfect and there was nothing Stephen Robinson could do to counter it.

Our goals were all excellent, especially from a front line that had struggled to make any real breakthrough this season. But boy did they deliver at the weekend, and this will only install confidence.

Of course, this win and Dundee moving up to fifth in the Premiership, just two points off our victims in third spot, have the Dundee faithful jokingly talking about a wee European jaunt for the club. Now, we obviously are saying this in jest but the way results for us and other teams are going, why shouldn’t we be looking at the top-six?

Based on current form, it’s very plausible but at the same time, there is still a hell of a lot of games to go as well as a transfer window for any faltering clubs. We really shouldn’t be counting our chickens just yet, but you know what, who am I to stop people's fun?

Two Dundee players have made my team of the week for their performances in an outstanding win against St Mirren.

Owen Beck has been consistently classy since his arrival on loan from Liverpool, while Amadou Bakayoko's electric two goal performance in what was a superb showing from the Dark Blues has him in.

  7. 'Better get the sunscreen in for our European tour'published at 16:04 12 November 2023

    Your views

We asked for your thoughts after Dundee thrashed St Mirren 4-0 in the Scottish Premiership.

Here's a taste of what you had to say:

Martin: Clinical from Dundee. We seem to be able to soak up the pressure then counter quickly. The defence is tough to break down and must be a nightmare to play against.

Neil: What a brilliant result today. It's great to see the strikers getting goals. So pleased that Zak Rudden got a standing ovation when being substituted.

Rod: Wow, if the strikers start scoring regularly we might be in with a chance of third spot. Better get the sunscreen in for Dundee's European tour next year.

  8. Squad depth key for Dundee, says Bakayokopublished at 12:52 12 November 2023

Amadou Bakayoko insists fierce competition for places is fuelling Dundee’s rise up the Premiership table.

The Sierra Leone striker netted a double in the 4-0 rout of St Mirren that hoisted Tony Docherty’s side to fifth.

“There is a great balance, if you are looking at the bench a well there is a lot of strength on there,” Bakayoko told BBC Scotland.

“You have Finlay [Robertson] who can do the same as Lyall [Cameron] and Luke [McCowan], you have Diego [Pineda] on there.

“So you have really got to fight for your spot in the team, not making it easy for the players that are starting, and I think it pushes everyone on.

“With Trevor [Carson] in goal it gives us a lot of confidence and he has been unbelievable for us as a good senior.

“And with the defence giving us a lot of strength there, everyone is digging in and helping each other.”

Having won back-to-back games without conceding since the 5-0 defeat by Rangers, Dundee are just two points off St Mirren in third.

“You don’t want to be getting carried away but I think we need to applaud ourselves for a lot of the performances in these last 12 games,” added Bakayoko.

“It gives us belief that we can go and do this to any team in this league.”

  9. Dundee 4-0 St Mirren: Key statspublished at 20:12 11 November 2023

    • St Mirren attempted 415 passes in this game, their highest total in a single match in the Scottish Premiership this season.

    • But they failed to attempt a shot on target - it's the first time they failed to do so in a league game since facing Rangers on 8 October.

    • Dundee have kept a clean sheet in six of their 12 games, only Rangers (7) have more in the Scottish Premiership this season.

    • Amadou Bakayoko made it three league goals for the season - the most of any Dundee player in the Scottish Premiership this term.

  11. Dundee 4-0 St Mirren: What the manager saidpublished at 18:02 11 November 2023

Dundee manager Tony Docherty tells BBC Sportsound: "I thought it was as close to a complete performance as you can get there. It's a good day's work.

"We're in a good place. All we look for is constant improvement. We're getting that. I've got a real competitive squad in there. The performance level today was outstanding. Another clean sheet. It gives you that confidence that one goal can win a game, but today it was four.

"It was a big and important win for us. It's Hibs coming here next. We just take each game as it comes.

"All the strikers got on the scoresheet. It was the endeavour and work rate of the striker that transcended onto the rest of the team.

"We could have scored more goals today, but I'm not going to be greedy. We've got ourselves into a healthy position in the league, but we're only going to strive to get better.

"It feels like there is a synergy with the fans. I thought there was a real work-ethic about the team. The crowd are seeing that."
