We asked for your reaction to Dundee's 2-1 home defeat by Hibernian.

Doug: The players and management team must surely be asking themselves how that game got away from them. All of the flair players were available, some good attacking football was played, but on the day, the whole was less than the sum of its parts.

Rod: Always disappointing when we lose, but this Dundee team have raised my expectation levels to expect more wins and draws. We have a great squad, but we also have to be ruthless and move on players who we are not going to play soon. Hopefully Max Anderson will be back soon. Also, I am interested in who we sign on pre-contract and January signings.

Colin: Hibs fan here and can honestly say I thought man of the match was Lyle Cameron. What a game he had in midfield. Hibs have been crying out for a player like him - if only he was ours. I genuinely believe Dundee have a player that can go on to bigger and better things than many other players will only ever dream about. What potential he has.

    • Joe Newell has assisted three goals this season, more than any other Hibs player in the league

    • Dundee have scored in each of their last three league games, scoring six goals in that run.

  7. Dundee 1-2 Hibernian: What the manager saidpublished at 18:05 25 November 2023

Dundee manager Tony Docherty tells BBC Sportsound: "I think our reaction - the spirit of the squad is clear to see. We just ran out of time.

"The way we impacted the game when it went to 2-0, a lot of teams would give that up. Our good play forced the sending off, and then we had the impetus the whole way through.

"The only thing I'm a wee bit disappointed with is we could have been a bit more clinical. In a game like that you have to take your chances. David Marshall had a particularly good game, but I think we deserved at least a point from the game.

"I couldn't have more praise for my players. The punters are lucky that they have a group of players that give everything.

"We dust ourselves down and go to Fir Park. The only way we can do something about the defeat today is go there and get a win."

  9. Dundee 1-2 Hibernian: Analysispublished at 17:58 25 November 2023

    George O'Neill, BBC Sport Scotland

An unwelcome characteristic of Hibs' season has been their defensive fragility, demonstrated by their habit of conceding costly late goals.

There was a sense under Lee Johnson that they have a soft centre, and although performances have improved under Nick Montgomery, that air of vulnerability at the back still lingers.

When Lewis Miller saw red, the away contingent would have feared that all their good work was about to go up in smoke, but instead Hibs showed a steel and found a way to win with their backs against the wall. That can only prove a positive moving forwards.

For Dundee, they will look back at this as a missed opportunity. Luke McCowan could have had a hat-trick on another day, Amadou Bakayoko missed a couple of decent chances, and the Antonio Portales non-header truly beggars belief.

What will encourage Docherty is that once again they more than held their own against an established Premiership side, and in Liverpool loanee Owen Beck, they have one of the brightest talents in the division.

If the Dens Park outfit can sustain this level of performance, a top-six finish is a reachable target.

  12. Player to watch - Trevor Carsonpublished at 17:27 24 November 2023

Dundee have done a grand job since returning to the Premiership, losing just three of their 12 games and sitting level on points with fourth-place Hearts.

Much of that success has been built on a mean defence, with only Rangers (eight) and Celtic (seven) keeping more clean sheets than their six. Five of those blanks have come in their past six league outings.

Trevor Carson has proved a shrewd signing, with the 35-year-old goalkeeper turning in some outstanding displays.

Hibs visit Dens Park on Saturday and they found Carson in inspired form during a goalless draw at Easter Road in late September.

  13. 'Dundee players looking to stake Scotland claim' published at 16:21 24 November 2023

In the week Scotland's successful Euro 2024 qualifying campaign came to an end, Dundee boss Tony Docherty says his players will be doing everything they can to get a seat on the plane to Germany.

Highlighting the young players already featuring for the national team at youth level, Docherty thinks there is a "natural progression" to the first-team.

On Scotland qualifying, he said: "It's a real motivator, I think for the players. There's a real feelgood [factor] about Scottish football at the moment and that's down to Steve Clarke.

"I've got to go on record and congratulate them. To be going to a major tournament, it's a brilliant feeling.

"More importantly, it's a real motivational factor for all the players. You mention Lyall [Cameron] there, but I imagine everybody will be staking their claim to try and get into the squad.

"As a club manager, it's great to see - albeit it's at under-21 level - that I've got three players representing Scotland in Lyall Cameron, Josh Mulligan and Finlay Robertson.

"It's a natural progression for Lyall, Fin and Josh if they keep doing well in the 21s with Scot Gemmill, then hopefully, they'll get the recognition with Steve Clarke going into that main squad."

    Tyrone Smith, BBC Scotland

Dundee goalkeeper Trevor Carson says they have "nothing to fear" as they look to build on their encouraging start to the season.

After being promoted from the Championship last term, Tony Docherty's side have settled to life in the top-flight admirably.

They are currently fifth in the table, just two points behind third-placed St Mirren, who they thrashed 4-0 before the international break.

Carson, who has helped Dundee amass five clean sheets from their last six games, believes there is no reason they can't keep their good form going.

"We are not going to get ahead of ourselves either. It is a long old season, we are only a third, a quarter of it done," the 35-year-old said.

"We have got objectives within the dressing room, but we have just got promoted last season, the first aim is to stay in this league and that hasn’t changed regardless of the start. That is definitely our first aim, to secure our safety in this league.

"We have played every team now, we have seen what they are all about and there is nothing to fear. That is not being arrogant or dismissive of the other teams but there is nothing to fear.

"Take away the Hibs game where we got a point, that is probably the only point where you thought maybe we could have lost that on another day, but the rest of the points that we have accumulated, we have more than deserved and if anything, we have probably left maybe four or five points behind with some results.

"I don’t think we are there through luck or a wee bit of fortune, I think we warrant to be where we are but we know we can even improve on that, so it bodes well going forward."

  15. Dundee worst hit by VAR mistakes - independent panel published at 12:10 24 November 2023

VAR decisions. It's the talk of the terraces at every ground. And fans of every club will have thought, at one stage or another, that VAR decisions go against their side more often than others.

The home crowd at Dens Park may just have a point, though.

The VAR independent review panel found three incorrect decisions in the league so far this season - and two of those have gone against Dundee.

The home fans at Dens Park were left aggrieved when Josh Mulligan was sent off for a challenge on Kilmarnock's Danny Armstrong in a 2-2 draw on 23 September.

Video assistant referee Euan Anderson asked David Munro to review the incident but the referee stuck by his original decision. Dundee subsequently failed to overturn the red card following an appeal.

The IRP also felt Dundee were hard done by when an Amadou Bakayoko effort was disallowed in a 2-0 win at Livingston on 28 October.

On that occasion, referee Willie Collum reviewed footage and decided at least one offside Dundee player was interfering with play.
