  1. Dundee v Rangers: Team newspublished at 18:54 31 October 2023

Dundee boss Tony Docherty is hoping Malachi Boateng shrugs off a knock while Josh Mulligan (hernia) remains out.

Midfielder Nicolas Raskin (ankle) and defender John Souttar (muscle problem) are added to the Rangers injury list.

Borna Barisic, Kemar Roofe, Dujon Sterling and Rabbi Matondo remain out along with Tom Lawrence, although the latter has returned to training following a calf problem.

  2. Docherty expecting new-look Rangers under Clementpublished at 17:50 31 October 2023

Dundee manager Tony Docherty has been impressed by Rangers under new manager Philippe Clement and is anticipating a tough test when the sides face off at Dens Park on Wednesday.

Clement has won both his league games in charge, against Hibs and Hearts, and Docherty has noticed an upturn in performances since the Belgian's appointment.

“I think there’s a different style about Rangers," Docherty said. "He (Clement) is a real competitor, you can see that.

“I’ve seen them against Hibs and they’ve had two domestic home games that they’ve won and they have won them in different ways.

“But certainly the mentality they showed to win the Hearts game and the performance level against Hibs shows that the manager has had an impact on the performance levels.

“There is a different style of play there. But this is his first domestic game away from home so we will be trying to make it as difficult as we can for a very good Rangers team and a good manager."

  3. Manager in focus: Tony Dochertypublished at 15:56 31 October 2023

Dundee are enjoying life back in the top flight and Tony Docherty might be thinking he should have stepped out of Derek McInnes' shadow sooner.

The 52-year-old long-time assistant coach has made an impressive start to his managerial career, with only two defeats from nine league outings.

At one point on Saturday, the Dark Blues had dropped to 11th place. But, come full-time, a 2-0 victory away to Livingston had propelled them up to the giddy heights of fourth.

An unbeaten run of four games is Dundee's best form in the Premiership since December 2018 and if that can be extended at home to Rangers then Docherty may well be looking up rather than dealing with the usual survival issues facing newly-promoted sides.

  4. 'Memorable week has us sitting pretty as home double-header looms'published at 12:11 31 October 2023

    Dundee talking point

Daniel Smith, Up Wi' The Bonnets podcast, external

From sitting 10th in the league to reaching the heady heights of fourth, even if it was just for 24 hours, last week was a good one for Dundee and the supporters.

Despite the dour draw at home to Ross County feeling a bit underwhelming, when you combine that result with the victory over Livingston away from home and making it three clean sheets on the bounce, I'm sure that the vast majority will have been delighted to take four points from teams that many predict will be hanging around us this season.

The County game last Tuesday did see us kind of get out of jail with the referee using VAR to rightfully chop off their goal while Trevor Carson pulled off a few great saves to keep County at bay.

Again on Saturday it looked like we were faltering up top but a change of personnel at half-time changed that.

Amadou Bakayoko had a goal ruled for offside and, after praising a decision going for us midweek, of course I'm going to criticise one going against us a few days later.

But it would not stop this team from getting the goals to claim all three points and we can thank big sexy Joe Shaughnessy for making it happen.

Of course, Livi being reduced to 10 men helped us over the line but really, were we ever looking at a different outcome other than a Dundee victory?

And so on to this week. Two home games in a matter of days, with Rangers up first on Wednesday night then Livingston again on Sunday.

Both are massive games and we will find it especially tough.

The team from Glasgow will be looking to continue making an impression on their new gaffer and will also be aiming to banish Sunday's lacklustre display against Hearts.

Livingston will be desperate to make amends for failing to turn up at home against us and being easily beaten.

We, as a support, have been starved of cup runs and comfortable mid-table victories.

You can normally find us languishing at the bottom, trying to claw at any points we can get our hands on, so to see Dundee sitting where we are can only mean it's the signal for the end of days!

All joking aside, we still have plenty of the season to go and this league is incredibly tight, so this may only be for a fleeting moment. But there is that notion at the back of my mind thinking, 'What if we can keep this up?'

  5. Docherty wants Dens to 'show its strength' to Rangerspublished at 17:18 30 October 2023

Dundee manager Tony Docherty wants Dens Park to "show its strength" when Rangers make their midweek trip to Tayside.

Docherty says his players are "in a confident mood" following Saturday's victory at Livingston, which extended their unbeaten run to four games.

And the Dundee boss hopes the home fans can use the current feelgood factor to make Wednesday's match an "intimidating" one for Philippe Clement's men.

"I want the fans to play a real part," he says. "The fans have been outstanding since I've come in, home and away.

"You saw them against Livingston at the weekend. But I would ask them give this one a big push."

  7. 'Big call from the manager' pays offpublished at 13:29 29 October 2023

Your views graphicImage source, BBC Sport

We asked for your views following Dundee's win over Livingston...

Doug: It was swings and roundabouts as regards VAR decisions for Dundee this week; the disallowed goal against Livingston was a very harsh decision, but exactly the same can be said of Ross County’s disallowed goal against Dundee on Tuesday night.

Kevin: Big call from the manager at half time to change to two up top made all the difference, we were a different team altogether.

Rod: Some of my fellow Dundee fans can be fickle but hopefully even they can see the stability in this team. This is no yo-yo side and a top six finish is possible with no fear of relegation. Doc knows what he is doing and we have lost the least games outside of Celtic and St Mirren. We could do with one of the strikers going on a run though (fickle).

Rob: Following the live results from over in the Philippines, what a great result. My birthday is on Wednesday 1st of November, bring on the Gers!!!!

Bob: Going in the right direction. If we had a goal scorer a couple of these draws would have been wins. Against Ross County we had three of our creative players out with injury. When a team arrive and have 6 across the back and 3/4 in front it’s going to be difficult. Still did enough and should still have won.

  8. Skipper Shaughnessy's shock at dramatic late doublepublished at 09:59 29 October 2023

Kenny Crawford, BBC Scotland at Tony Macaroni Arena

Dundee captain Joe Shaughnessy is as shocked as anyone that he ended up being the goal hero for the Dark Blues in their win against Livingston, which lifted Tony Docherty’s men to fourth in the Premiership.

“I surprised myself and so were most of the lads,” Shaughnessy told BBC Scotland.

“We did shooting practice during the week and I put two balls over the fence.

“It’s good to get points on the board and change a couple of draws into wins.

“It’s a good win at a hard place to come. The clean sheet was brilliant as well.”
