Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire digital switchover begins

Digital television viewers in Oxfordshire and parts of Berkshire and Buckinghamshire are entering the final stage of the digital switchover.

Around 6,000 viewers in digital blackspots will get BBC Freeview channels for the first time.

Existing digital television viewers will have to retune their sets.

The switchover began early on Wednesday morning when BBC Two's analogue signal was permanently turned off at the Oxford transmitter group.

Peter Monteith, Digital UK manager for the Central TV region, said: "Those viewers who haven't switched to digital should prepare for 28 September, when the last analogue channels will be permanently switched off.

"Our advice is: get ready now - don't leave it until the last minute."

Further Freeview channels from ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 will be available from local transmitters for the first time when the switchover is completed.

Digital blackspots in the region have included Guiting Power in Gloucestershire, and Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire.
