A new secure cycle parking hub is to be built on a main cycling route.

The hub, which is due to be built next to Windsor Leisure Centre in Berkshire in the spring, would allow cyclists to store their bikes in a protected space when using the facilities.

It will have two-tier racks accommodating 36 bicycles.

The sports facility is next to one of the main cycling routes into Windsor town centre and near to The National Cycle Network Route 4.

Spaces will cost £1.50 per day and can be booked in advance

The hub will be fitted with a pump and repair stand and 24-hour CCTV surveillance.

Geoff Hill, Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Council's transport lead, said the hub would support the authority's work to combat climate change.

He added the hub would empower more people to reduce their reliance on motorised vehicles for short journeys.

Cyclists will use an app to book their parking spaces, which includes a secure ID verification process to ensure only they can access it.
