Ofsted boss quizzed on one-word school judgements

An Ofsted boss has been quizzed on protecting the mental health of teachers, the behaviour of inspectors and the use of one-word judgements.

They were just some of the topics raised by BBC Radio Solent listeners as they were given the opportunity to speak to Matthew Purves, director of Ofsted in south-east England, who joined presenter Louisa Hannan to answers questions live on the station.

Mr Purves said parents should look further than its one-word judgements when school inspections are published.

Berkshire headteacher Ruth Perry took her own life in January 2023 after being told her school was being downgraded from outstanding to inadequate.

The government said the judgements should stay in April.
