A 23-year-old man has died after being stabbed at a nightclub in Wolverhampton.

Police are investigating "serious disorder" which broke out at the Uberra Club about 04:30 BST. A number of other people were also injured.

Det Insp Warren Hines said Thomas Kirwan of Wolverhampton died in hospital.

Part of Wolverhampton ring road outside the Wednesfield Road nightclub was sealed off earlier.

A post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course, a police spokeswoman said.

Mr Hines, of West Midlands Police, said Mr Kirwan was a local man who had recently bought a house and was planning to get married next year.

"An investigation has been launched into serious disorder which broke out at Uberra Club last night which ultimately led to the death of this young man.

"A number of people sustained injuries during this incident."

He appealed for people who were in the nightclub and may have seen what happened to contact the force.
