The long-haired grey tabby is believed to be from Cambridge

A cat's curiosity got the better of it when it apparently hopped into a delivery truck and ended up 85 miles (137km) from home.

The long-haired grey cat is thought to have started his journey in Cambridge before finding himself near Maidstone, Kent.

He was taken to a Cats Protection centre on Saturday and staff are trying to locate his owner, the Cambridge News, external reported.

The neutered male is not microchipped.

Adrian Ferne, manager of the charity's Bredhurst adoption centre, said: "The tabby was spotted sauntering out of the truck by a woman.

"We've had some strange deliveries but this is very different."

Mr Ferne said the van started its journey in Cambridge but he was not sure if the driver made other stops along the route.

The cat has been nicknamed Reagan by staff "because he looks like a Reagan".

Mr Ferne said: "He's a very good-looking boy, very distinctive and friendly, but he's a little disorientated being so far from home so we really need to trace his owner.

Strays are usually put up for rehoming after 14 days, but Mr Ferne said the cat's situation was "a little bit unique" and he was "clearly not a stray".

He said: "If he had been microchipped he would be back with his owner now."

The charity hopes posts on social media sites will help the cat find its way back home.
