Teenagers rescued from Newquay cove in rising tide

Eight teenagers from Oxford had to be rescued by the RNLI after getting cut-off by the tide on a Cornish beach.

The six boys and two girls, who were all 16, were cut off between Great Western and Towan Beaches.

Newquay's inshore lifeboat crew was alerted to the incident at about 1810 BST, an hour before high tide.

The lifeboat crew rescued the teenagers and took them back to the harbour. No one in the group required any medical attention.

The lifeboat crew said it was advisable people checked tide times before venturing on to a "secluded beach".
