The RNLI's lifeguard facility on Newquay's Fistral beach has been officially opened.

Building work started in February 2010 on the two-storey building which was opened for lifeguarding six months later.

Lifeguards had worked from temporary buildings on the beach since 2001.

The building cost the charity £500,000, but it says that with more than 520 lifesaving incidents at Fistral in the past year, it is money well spent.
