Worcester city centre £100m revamp plans approved

Developers said building work would be done in three phases to be completed in 2018

Plans for a £100m redevelopment of Worcester city centre have been approved by councillors.

About 600 new homes, a care village, offices, a cinema, bowling alley and ice rink are to be built in the area around Shrub Hill railway station.

Developers Sherriff's Gate Limited said work would be done in three phases and would take about four-and-a-half years.

The council said it was looking at planned changes to the road system in the area before work could start.

Sherriff's Gate said the redevelopment would take up an area of 900,000 sq ft (83,612 sq m) and building work would incorporate any listed buildings.

It said phase one would include the building of a 600-space multi-storey car park, and a building with shops, offices and apartments.

Two new six-storey buildings including an 80-bed care village, would be built as part of phase two.

Phase three would include the building of a hotel, cinema, ice-skating rink and apartments on a site off Tolladine Road, the developers said.
