Work starts on A160 Immingham upgrade scheme

Work has started on an £88m project to upgrade a major road in North East Lincolnshire into a dual carriageway.

A ceremony was being held to officially mark the construction of the upgrade of the A160 in Immingham.

The Highways Agency said improvements to the road were vital to "reduce congestion".

About 13,000 vehicles use the road every day and nearly half of these are lorries, the agency said. It predicts this number will almost double by 2030.

The work is expected to be completed by June 2016 and motorists have been warned of possible delays during this period.

Ben Ridgeon, project manager, said: "Once completed, traffic congestion will be reduced, journey times will become more reliable, safety will be improved for road users and the local community, and there will be better access to the Port of Immingham and the surrounding area."
