Kirkham baby death: Police appeal to Polish community

A police appeal poster has been translated into Polish

Police investigating the death of a baby boy whose body was found in a Lancashire stream have appealed to the Polish community for information.

The baby, who was no more than one month old, was found by a dog walker at Spen Brook in Kirkham on 1 October.

Leaflets and posters have been distributed in a bid to trace his mother but she has not yet been traced.

Officers have now translated the appeal poster into Polish to raise awareness among the local community.

Det Ch Insp Andrea Barrow said: "We know that there are a number of Polish people who live and work in the area and we want to make sure that we reach all of our communities as we continue our inquiries.

"Our main priority is still to trace the mother of the baby boy and we would urge her to come forward so that we can offer them the support they may need."

The incident featured on BBC Crimewatch last month, when officers revealed they believed the child may have been put in an Evans shoe box, which originally contained a pair of size-five shoes.

A Union Jack towel and a green towel with a "Renaissance" label were found at the scene, as well as a discoloured fleece that was originally blue and white.
