Detectives working on a murder investigation say they have located a missing phone following an appeal.

Timothy Macdonald, 46, was found dead from a gunshot wound in a field off Highgate Lane, Plungar, in Leicestershire, on 7 November.

On Friday, officers asked for help finding a Samsung phone they believed could help with their inquiries.

Leicestershire Police said the device was handed in by a member of the public at Melton police station on Saturday.

Last week, the force said a post-mortem examination had determined Mr Macdonald died from a gunshot wound injury, pending further tests.

A 56-year-old man from Grantham in Lincolnshire was arrested on suspicion of Mr Macdonald's murder before being released under investigation.

The case has been linked to the death of a 46-year-old man found in a vehicle on the A52 in Nottinghamshire on 9 November.

Det Insp David Greenhalgh said: "From both myself and the family of Mr Macdonald, thank you very much to everyone who shared our appeal and of course to the person who handed the phone in.

"Your work with us and your response to our appeal is very much appreciated and is extremely helpful to our ongoing enquiries as we continue to find much-needed answers for Mr Macdonald's family."
