Paramedic pushed out of London ambulance by patient

A paramedic can be seen being pushed out of the back of an ambulance by a patient in a video released by London Ambulance Service (LAS).

The paramedic can be seen crashing to the ground and holding his elbow in the footage, filmed earlier this year.

The patient had previously verbally abused members of the ambulance crew, and also urinated in the ambulance, the LAS said.

It added that police were already at the scene, and they subsequently arrested the patient, who has since been convicted.

The footage was released as part of the "Work Without Fear" campaign, run in conjunction with other services across the country.

It aims to "promote a no-violence culture and help create a safer work environment for front-line staff and volunteers".

The LAS says it has invested more than £3m to fit its ambulances with video cameras to help protect crews, and encourages its staff to report cases of abuse.

It says there have been 38 successful prosecutions for abuse against ambulance crews in the past year.
