A woman has been arrested after a four-year-old boy was found locked in a hot car in Greater Manchester.

The child was rescued from the vehicle on Hulme High Street at 13:40 BST on Thursday when, according to the Met Office, temperatures reached 27C.

Emergency services smashed a window to retrieve the boy who was taken to hospital as a precaution.

A 40-year-old woman was arrested by Greater Manchester Police (GMP) on suspicion of child neglect and bailed.

A GMP spokeswoman said: "Police were called... by a member of the public who was concerned about a child left in the car. It was obviously very hot."
