A man has been arrested on suspicion of rape by detectives investigating allegations of historical sexual abuse at music schools in Manchester.

The 61-year-old is the fourth to be arrested and bailed over claims of abuse at Chetham's School of Music and the Royal Northern College of Music.

He is suspected of the rape of three teenagers, aged 16 to 18, between 1980 and 1991 while teaching at Chetham's.

Police said more than 30 women have reported abuse at the school.

Detectives are investigating 10 suspected offenders, they said.

The investigation follows the conviction of former choirmaster Michael Brewer, 68, for abusing pupil Frances Andrade at the school in the 1970s and 1980s.

Ms Andrade is believed to have killed herself after giving evidence in the trial.
