River Mersey death: Fresh appeal to identify woman
- Published
Police have renewed an appeal to identify a woman found dead in a river.
The woman's body was discovered on 21 March in the River Mersey, close to Chorlton Water Park in Manchester.
Despite extensive investigations the identity of the woman currently remains a mystery, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.
It released an image of the top the woman was wearing last month, hoping it would "spur the memory" of someone who knows her or saw her last movements.
The woman is described as 5ft 1in (156cm) tall, with medium-length dark hair and a slim build.
'Absolutely committed'
GMP said it has conducted specialist examinations, DNA testing and reviews of missing persons records.
Detectives have not established her approximate age, ethnicity or cause of death yet due to the length of time she had been in the water before discovery.
The force said it was determined to exhaust every avenue available to identify the woman, with the ultimate goal of reuniting her with her next-of-kin and ascertaining what led to her being in the water.
An image of a lime green Primark-branded crop-top, believed to be the same one she was wearing, was released last month and officers said the woman was also wearing New Look 'Jenna jeans' in a UK size 8 and non-slip style green socks.
Det Insp Louise Edwards said: "We remain absolutely committed to discovering the identity of this woman and we know that someone out there will know who she is.
"We are using every resource available to us as the investigation continues, including assistance from specialist advisers and forensic experts."
She urged anyone with information to come forward.
