A couple from Liverpool who discovered they were millionaires on Christmas morning say they are going to spend the cash on their first home.

Self-employed joiner James Campbell and his wife Angela, of Norris Green, scooped £1m in the EuroMillions Millionaire Raffle.

Mr Campbell, 29, had bought a last-minute ticket on Christmas Eve.

Mrs Campbell, 27, said: "It's just magical. We never thought it would ever happen to us."

The couple, who have two sons, four-year-old Callum and Jake, three, said they were still in shock about the win.

'Couldn't eat dinner'

They discovered they had won when Mr Campbell checked their raffle number on the lottery website.

As soon as they realised they were millionaires, they picked up the phone to tell their families and then rang Camelot.

"I put the ticket in a money tin in a kitchen cupboard and we then got on with Christmas as usual but we felt so sick, we couldn't eat our Christmas dinner," said Mr Campbell.

The couple, who have been married for almost three years, are planning to take their children to Disneyland, as well as buying their own house.

Mr Campbell said: "We want to get a house and keep money for the kids. We don't just want to go and blow it all."

Mrs Campbell, a nursery nurse and regular churchgoer, she said she took the children to church on Christmas morning.

She said: "I just turned up at church, sitting there like that, thinking thank you, I'm a millionaire! It was unbelievable."

Mr Campbell said he almost did not buy the winning ticket after he found his usual shop closed on Christmas Eve.
