Fiddler's Ferry: Foggy view as cooling towers demolished
Fog shrouded spectators' views when they watched the controlled demolition of parts of a landmark power station.
Fiddler's Ferry dominated the Cheshire skyline after it became fully operational in 1973. At its height, the Warrington power station supplied electricity for about two million homes.
As four of the eight cooling towers were demolished, locals recalled playing football in the area.
The station's closure in 2020 was part of government plans to end coal-fired electricity generation by 2025.
