'Witness' appeal after Newark Northgate Station train death

British Transport Police (BTP) are trying to trace a man who might have witnessed a railway worker being hit by a train at Newark Northgate Station.

John Wright, 49, from Doncaster, a member of Network Rail's track team, died in hospital after being struck on 22 January.

Detectives want to speak to a man who was captured on CCTV close to the scene of the accident.

BTP have said they are not treating Mr Wright's death as suspicious.

Det Insp Stuart Mellish said: "We are conducting a thorough investigation into the events that led up to him being hit by the train and are trying to piece together all the information possible.

"The man in the photo was captured on CCTV close to the location where John was struck.

"We have already spoken to a number of witnesses but would like to trace this man who may have important information about what happened to John immediately before the accident."

Mr Wright was flown by air ambulance to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham with crtitical injuries, but died days later.
