Jayden Parkinson death: IPCC investigate Thames Valley Police response

Jayden disappeared on 3 December and was last seen at Didcot railway station

The police response to the disappearance of teenager Jayden Parkinson is being investigated by the police watchdog.

The 17-year-old's body was found in an established grave in a cemetery in Didcot, Oxfordshire in December.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) said it was examining how Thames Valley Police dealt with the missing persons report.

Her ex-boyfriend Ben Blakeley, 22, from Reading, has been charged with murder.

IPCC Associate Commissioner Guido Liguori said: "Our investigation is examining the response of Thames Valley Police to the missing persons report, and whether the individual and collective decisions made by police officers or staff and the related actions were appropriate and proportionate in the circumstances."

Jayden disappeared on 3 December having last been seen leaving Didcot railway station at about 16:30 GMT.

Her body was found in the Great Western Cemetery next to All Saints Church in the town on 18 December.

A post-mortem examination by a Home Office pathologist proved inconclusive, so toxicology tests were requested.

Police have now confirmed that she died from "pressure to the neck".

Mr Blakeley, of Christchurch Road, Reading, and a 17-year-old boy from Didcot, have also been charged with perverting the course of justice.

The teenager, who cannot be named, is also accused of assisting in the disposal of Jayden's body and other evidence.

A 48-year-old woman from Didcot was arrested on 25 February on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.

Jayden's funeral was held earlier this month near her former hometown of Folkestone in Kent.
