Oxford boy sentenced after Martha Fernback's drug death

The Cherwell School pupil, who had been in the park with a group of friends, died in hospital.

A teenager has been handed a community sentence for selling drugs following the death of a schoolgirl in Oxford.

Martha Fernback, 15, suffered a cardiac arrest at Hinksey Park on 20 July last year after taking 0.5g of MDMA.

Alex Williams, 17, of Sycamore Road, Botley, previously admitted supplying controlled class A drugs.

At the hearing at Oxford Crown Court, Williams was ordered to complete a youth rehabilitation order and wear a tag for three months.

He must also complete 10 days activity or reparation, a drug dealing intervention programme and pay a £15 victim surcharge.

In mitigation, Williams said: "I am deeply sorry for Martha's mother's loss. Not a day goes by when I don't think about it and am consumed by the guilt of my actions."

Sentencing Williams, Judge Mary Mowat said: "Every part of this case resonates with me.

"I'm shocked by the incredulity of the folly of youth.

"Hopefully, the tragic death of Martha will deter you from any other involvement in drugs."
