Telford and Wrekin Council to make £4m savings

A Shropshire council is planning to make savings of about £4m a year following cuts in government grants.

Telford and Wrekin Council Leader Andrew Eade said it represented about £3m revenue savings, which includes providing services.

There also needs to be £1m savings to capital revenue.

Mr Eade said the council hoped to be able to make the savings "without causing too may problems in the borough itself".

Details of which services will be affected are expected to be announced over the coming weeks.

Mr Eade said the council was "nearly there" regarding its plans on how the money would be saved.

He said: "It has been difficult, it hasn't been easy. It's a lot of money to take out."

Councils across England are having to make millions of pounds of savings after £1.1bn funding cuts were announced by the government last month.
