A woman has admitted murdering her army veteran husband at their home in Rotherham.

Pauline Caster, 44, stamped on Kevin Caster and left him dying on the floor for 90 minutes before calling for help.

Mr Caster, 43, was found seriously injured at the couple's house on High Hazel Crescent, Catcliffe, in October 2021.

His wife initially denied murder but changed her plea to guilty on the third day of her Sheffield Crown Court trial.

The court heard the pair, who had three children, had a volatile relationship involving regular arguments, low-level violence, and drug and alcohol use.

South Yorkshire Police said witnesses had told detectives they heard Caster shouting at her husband and "making violent gestures" on the night of the killing on 19 October.

CCTV footage captured Caster stamping on her husband as he laid on the floor of their home.

At 9.55pm that night, she was seen running into the street screaming that Mr Caster was dead. Paramedics were called but it was too late to save his life.

Police said Caster gave witnesses conflicting accounts of how her husband had been injured, telling some that they had had a fight and others that he had taken epilepsy pills and suffered a seizure.

Det Ins John Fitzgibbons, the senior investigating officer, said: "This is a tragic case where not only do those who knew and loved Kevin have to face his loss, but Caster's actions effectively mean they lose her too, as she now faces a significant custodial sentence."

Caster, formerly of Harmony Way, Catcliffe, was remanded in custody on Wednesday and will be sentenced on Thursday morning.
