Sheffield former care home buildings to be demolished

Two former care home buildings in Sheffield are to be demolished, a city council planning officer has said.
The properties on Leighton Drive and Paddock Hill, near Gleadless Road, were closed in 2021.
Sheffcare, the owner of Castelayn Residential Home, said the closure was part of a modernisation plan.
One resident had objected to the demolition arguing the buildings could be repurposed and that people in the area should be given more information.
According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the resident said the buildings could be used for supported living, adding the sites would "remain an empty plot" for some time.
In a comment on the application, South Yorkshire Police said: "Vacant properties frequently contribute to an increase in police demand as they become targets for fly-tipping, trespassing and thefts.
"The proposed demolition will undoubtedly alleviate the demand at the location."
