A woman found murdered outside her home died from multiple blows to the head, a post-mortem examination revealed.

Police found the victim's body at an address in Walton Road, West Molesey, just after 08.00 GMT on Monday.

Formal identification has yet to take place, but Surrey Police said it believes it is 50-year-old Robyn Mercer.

A 52-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder remains in custody.

The coroner has been informed and forensic enquiries are ongoing, Surrey Police said.

'Extremely kind-hearted'

Tributes have been paid to Ms Mercer, a specialist in antique silver who worked at JH Bourdon-Smith in Mayfair, west London.

Arts specialist Paul Crane, 40, from a nearby gallery said: "She was an extremely kind-hearted lady who had a deep and generous amount of time for friends."

Ms Mercer was also a keen rower. In the wake of her death, fellow members of Walton Rowing Club expressed their shock at her "untimely death".

Mike Everington posted on the club's website: "We offer our deepest sympathy and condolences to her family."
