Detectives investigating the murder of an antiques dealer whose body was found outside her home in Surrey believe she was attacked with an axe or a machete.

Details of the weapon thought to have killed Robyn Mercer were revealed on Crimewatch on Monday.

Det Ch Insp Paul Rymarz said the mother-of-two went outside to the bins after a family meal on 13 March.

He said her body was found the next morning at the end of the driveway at the house in Walton Road, West Molesey.

Six months after the killing, five people remain on bail but the investigation continues.

After the television appeal, police said they had potentially identified a dog walker who could have vital information.

And officers said the focus of the investigation would now be on identifying the weapon.

'Struck several times'

Speaking on Crimewatch, Det Ch Insp Rymarz said: "At about 9pm on Sunday 13 March, we believe Robyn had gone outside to put something in the bins outside the front of her house having had a family meal.

"Her body was discovered the following morning, about 8am, at the end of the driveway by the back gate."

He said a post-mortem examination revealed she had been hit once to the front of the head and then struck several times while on the ground.

And he added: "We believe the weapon was some sort of axe or a machete and we're appealing for any information from anybody who knows anything about that weapon."

He said it was not yet known how many people contacted police after the appeal, but officers were very pleased with the response.
