Teens guilty of murdering Eastbourne man Chris Poole

Two teenagers have been found guilty of murdering a man who died after being beaten outside a convenience store.

Chris Poole, 46, was attacked outside the Premier store in the Hydneye area of Eastbourne on 16 August. He died of his injuries the next day.

Shane Noble, 19, of no fixed address, and Joe Chapman, 15, of Otham Road, Eastbourne, were found guilty of his murder at Lewes Crown Court.

Mr Poole's brother, Rick, said the "family would never be free of pain".

Sussex Police said Mr Poole was punched and kicked in the head shortly before 21:00 BST after becoming involved in an altercation with a group of teenage boys.

Speaking on behalf of his family, his brother, said: "They [Noble and Chapman] showed no remorse for their action and all who were there on that fateful night will live with this on their conscience forever.

"In time to come they will be free again and maybe they would have learnt their lesson. We, the family, will never be free of our pain and suffering."

Det Ch Insp Nick May, who headed the investigation, said: "The attack can only be described as a senseless act of violence.

"There were a number of people in the area at the time and I want to thank them and the community for their support to our investigation."

Noble and Chapman, who pleaded not guilty, have been remanded in custody and will be sentenced on 15 March.
