One-hour parking in Salisbury agreed by council

One-hour parking is to return to Salisbury after council leaders voted unanimously in favour of the option.
At a cabinet meeting earlier, councillors voted in favour of bringing back a one-hour charge of £1.50 and of raising the two-hour charge to £2.50.
Wiltshire Council introduced a two-hour minimum stay in the city in April, leading to strong criticism from businesses and the public.
The new parking charges are due to take effect on 19 September.
Council leader Jane Scott said: "We have listened to the concerns in Salisbury and although the decision we implemented was based on feedback from the business community, it was, in hindsight, wrong.
"I am content to move back to our original recommendation for a one and a two-hour charge.
"The decision we have made today reflects the needs of traders and shoppers in these challenging economic times and we hope to make these changes by 19 September."
