We're all sorry' over miscarriages of justice - Lord Mulholland
The former head of Scotland’s prosecution service has told BBC News “we’re all sorry” about any miscarriages of justice in relation to the Post Office scandal.
Lord Mulholland was the Lord Advocate between 2011 and 2016. The Crown Office was aware of potential problems with the Post Office Horizon system in 2013.
In England, the Post Office prosecuted Horizon cases but in Scotland the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service had sole responsibility for taking people to court.
The Crown Office has said it was not until the decisions by the courts in England and Wales in 2019 and 2021 that the full extent of the problems with Horizon became known.
There is no record of Lord Mulholland taking any decisions in relation to cases that involved Horizon evidence.
Lord Mulholland was speaking to the BBC's Katie Hunter.
