Officials at Aberdeen City Council have outlined proposals that could see secondary and primary schools closed as part of budget cuts.

Fresh savings of £34m have been identified to be implemented in the next five years.

More than £28m is set to be cut from the education budget.

Among the proposals that could be adopted by councillors are the closure of two secondary schools and five primary schools.

Northfield Academy was saved from closure last year after angry exchanges between coalition Lib Dem and SNP councillors.

Education officials had recommended the closure in a bid to address falling school rolls across Aberdeen, and save money.

It will now be up to councillors to decide which of the officials' recommendations to accept.
