Plans for an urban village on a former industrial site in Aberdeen have been rejected by councillors.

Owner Ian Suttie's plans for more than 500 homes at Broadford Works were turned down on the grounds of a lack of affordable housing, over-development, the potential impact on roads, and a lack of community facilities.

Officials had recommended approval.

Members of the development management sub committee rejected the plans by a margin of eight to four.

The derelict former Richards textiles mill has become a target for vandals and fireraisers.
