Scores of demonstrators protested against the plans

Shetland's Aith and Sandwick junior secondaries have been saved from closure.

Councillors decided to retain secondary education across all junior highs in rural areas up to the end of second year.

About 200 people had staged a protest outside the town hall in Lerwick before the meeting, and a petition signed by more than 1,800 people was handed in.

The proposals were aimed at saving as much as £3.25m by 2016.
