A road built in Inverurie more than a year ago which was deemed unsafe has now opened to traffic.

The road was built to allow access to housing developments to the north of the Aberdeenshire town.

It is joined by roundabouts to the roads linking the town with Oldmeldrum and Rothienorman.

A design problem on the B9001 roundabout - said to pose a risk of lorries toppling over - has been rectified.

An Aberdeenshire Council spokesman said: "Following remedial works, there remained safety issues with the road which have been completed this week, allowing it to open.

"In due course the council expects to take ownership of the road through its adoption process, then becoming responsible for its upkeep and maintenance."
