Man jailed for raping woman in 'night of terror' in her Aberdeen home

A man who admitted raping and choking a woman during an attack in her own home has been jailed for eight years.

A judge told Kyle Allan he had subjected the woman to "a night of terror".

Allan, 31, had been drinking heavily at a friend's barbecue before going into the woman's nearby home in the Cove area of Aberdeen.

He seized her by the neck and compressed her throat, causing her to lose consciousness.

He hit her on the head and body, removed her clothes and threw her to the ground before raping her.

The court heard previously that Allan did not know the woman and targeted her at random.

Judge Lord Ericht told Allan, who appeared via videolink at the High Court in Dundee: "You subjected her to a terrifying ordeal.

"She pleaded with you and fought back bravely.

"This was a random attack involving extreme violence. It was a night of terror."

Previously, the High Court in Edinburgh had heard the attack had left the 35-year-old woman, who cannot be identified, psychologically traumatised.

Prosecutor Isabella Ennis KC told judge Lord Ericht that, after the attack, Allan threatened his victim and her family members.

'Extremely dangerous'

She said: "He threatened her that if she called the police he would come back and kill them all."

The woman attempted to flee from her home but was held back by Allan before he eventually left the house with his shorts still at his knees.

He then escaped after hailing a taxi.

Ms Ennis said the victim phoned a family member and a friend to tell them about the attack.

She urged them not to call the police as she feared Allan would return to attack them.

However, the court heard the friend dialled 999 and Allan was later traced.

Graham Robertson, defending, said: "There is nothing I can say to mitigate what was a horrendous experience."

A social work report said Allan had expressed disbelief at his own actions.

Det Insp Mark Lambley said: "Kyle Allan is an extremely dangerous individual. His actions were despicable and have had a profound effect on the woman.

"I commend her for her strength throughout the investigation."
